Cycling in London LTM/AOI exhibition

Exhibition presented by London Transport Museum/Association of Illustrators

6 July to 22 August 2010

London Transport Museum, Covent Garden, London

The Awards night for the exhibition on 5 July was a great evening with the selected illustrators and their guests mingling with London Transport Museum and Transport for London staff, and those from the sponsors, Serco.

The winners were top secret until the evening, and out of a fantastic top 50 images, chosen from over 1000 entries, we can now reveal the winners.

First prize of £2000 was awarded to Rachel Lillie, who will also have her winning image printed as a poster and displayed on London Underground. Her description of her work says ‘I wanted to communicate the environmental and health benefits of cycling and how the two work together, depicting the roads of London as the veins of a leaf. Illustrating a map-like London as a vast green area bustling with happy cyclists promotes cycling as an efficient and environmentally friendly way to travel around London. Cycling really can contribute to making our city greener.’

Second prize £1000 was awarded to Harry Sankey.

Third prize £750 was awarded to Mia Nilsson, ‘I wanted my illustration to show the joy and freedom of cycling. How you can explore London’s nooks and corners, parks and canals that might be missed if you travel by bus or tube.’
